Side Effects of Life Saving Treatment Called the Angioplasty

Many people suffer coronary diseases and opt for medical treatments like the angioplasty to remove the plaque accumulated in the coronary blood vessels. The procedure of angioplasty involves slight pain and discomfort during the treatment. However, some of the patients suffer some side effects of this medical treatment.
Angioplasty treatment is not a permanent solution to keep the arteries unblocked for a long time so the patient might need the whole procedure repeated many times or find the need to have stent inserted in the vessels to keep them unblocked. This is advantageous to the patients for reducing the risk of heart damage in case of an attack. The stent used for angioplasty also contains the risk of forming blood clot in it and become a reason of heart attack itself.

The biggest risk involved in this procedure is the rupturing or bursting of the vessel carrying blood that might lead to heart attack. The patient can suffer kidney problems, abnormal heartbeat, and restenosis. Many patients also have complaints of urine blockage and presence of blood in the urine. Other side effects include the drainage from the insertion site, infection, and severe pain after the procedure ends. Elderly patients and women are more prone to develop side effects due to this procedure as compared to men. However, angioplasty is an affordable treatment and its adverse effects are curable with proper care and treatment.
